the STORY SO FAR

I started out making tea and toast on Strictly Come Dancing almost ten years ago.

Since then, a lot has changed.

After filming and edit assisting for the BBC I ventured into non-broadcast; I was eager to work on projects that I could see through, from conception to delivery.

In the last few years I've honed my craft, learning from a talented, supportive team.

Although I describe myself here as Editor and Cameraman, I've got a few other strings to my bow.

I often direct my own shoots and edits, shape the creative, the look-and-feel, I'm a qualified audio engineer and have a host of techy, geeky knowledge about all things audio-visual that often come in useful at the 11th hour.

I'm also still good at making tea and toast.

WORK

Most of my current work is for internal audiences and so subject to confidentiality agreements which must be respected.

However, I've included a few public-facing examples and a cut down here for illustrative purposes.

"The Royal Marines"

royal navy

Website Homepage Video - Editor

Over the last six years I have done a great deal of work for the Royal Navy, mainly based around recruitment videos for their website. There's a good chance if you're watching a video on the Navy site, I've edited it.

This video gives a taster of what the Royal Marines do on a daily basis to potential recruits and is intended to be an attention-grabber. Those interested could then delve further into the site, which was populated with short-vignettes with existing personnel, films decicated to each of the services and to each of the many role available.

Please visit the Navy website to see more examples and the work in context.

"marketwatch: USA"

TETRA PAK

Internal Engagement Quarterly Series - Cameraman/Editor

Marketwatch is a internal programme distributed to the worldwide to the employees of the packaging and processing company Tetra Pak.

The aim of these films is to examine the way in which the business operates in different parts of the world, to aid knowledge sharing and wider awareness of the company's operation.

The extract below is the intro section from a recent Marketwatch in LA and Texas that I shot and edited. This front end of the film offers some local colour before the interview-and-GV-led content begins in earnest. This section of the film cannot be shown here for reasons of client confidentiality.

"SUSIE BUBBLE"

doc marten's

Online Product Promo - Editor

This short vignette doc on fashion blogger Susie Bubble was part of a series designed to promote the Doc Marten's hashtag campaign #standforsomething, which urged people to be proud of their unique style.

I took inspiration from Susie's cut-and-paste style for the edit, overlaying images taken from her social media pages and going for an Instagram filter style grade. Believe it or not all the effects work was done in Avid!

"wear it out"

The Brain Tumour Charity

Social Media Campaign Video - Director/Cameraman/Editor

This project was executed on a very limited budget for The Brain Tumour Charity in order to promote their campaign Wear It Out, urging people to by BTC branded bandanas in order to raise money and awareness of the work that they do. The aesthetic approach was necessarily lo-fi due to the budget and it was a two person crew in total: a production manager and I, running about one busy December day!
